A warm welcome to the Light in the City event in Hasselt, October 17-19, 2013!

In February 2011, Hasselt implemented a new lighting plan, following which our city engineers gained a lot of experience concerning sustainable illumination and scenic lighting, as well as strategic implementation of light sources.

By participating in the “Light in the City” project, we want to share these ideas and experiences on urban lighting. At the same time, we hope to gain knowledge for our future projects by learning about the good practices in the field.

For these reasons, the Light in the City event in Hasselt strives to create an atmosphere conducive to the exchange of lighting visions. We do not only hope to inspire attendants by presenting our own lighting plan but - through several interesting workshops, lectures and presentations – engage in lively discussions and debates on lighting.

One of the highlights of the event will be our lighting festival. This initiative, which is open to the general public, supports our city's most popular event 'The Hasselt Jenever Festival'. The lighting festival will illuminate several landmarks and historical buildings, thereby offering an insight into the history of Hasselt – the European Capital of Taste and a city with an ancient tradition of Jenever production.

Those attending the Light in the City event are most welcome to extend their stay in Hasselt until Sunday so that they can enjoy the Jenever Festival to the fullest.
